Smoking and Vaping Policy
In addition to our legal requirements not to permit smoking in any part of the nursery building, this prohibition also covers vaping, and applies to staff, parents and visitors in all parts of the nursery environment, including the external areas of the car park and playground, and in front of the building.
This is in order that children are neither subjected to smoke, nor do they see adults smoking around them whilst in our care.
Staff who smoke are requested to consider children in their care and not expose them to any residual smoke on either clothing or breath when starting work or after taking a break. This requires staff to either remove their work sweatshirt, or cover their uniform with a coat, and to wash their hands when returning to their duties. This is particularly important in the care of babies, but applies to all age groups in the nursery.
